Widely Published Biosolids Expert Joins Metcalf & Eddy Environmental Team

November 7, 2006

Wakefield, Massachusetts - Dr. Mohammed (“Mo”) Abu-Orf has joined environmental consultant Metcalf & Eddy as national technology leader for biosolids, announced company president Steve Guttenplan.  Dr. Abu-Orf will be based in Philadelphia but will have national and international responsibilities within M&E’s wastewater practice.

“Showing our clients that they have options is a big part of what we’re about,” commented Guttenplan, “and Dr. Abu-Orf will do a very effective job based on his extremely wide base of treatment plant experience. Dr. Abu-Orf has a great track record in researching and solving unconventional problems, especially those related to production of high-quality biosolids and optimization of dewatering processes.”

Dr. Abu-Orf joins M&E from Siemens Water Technologies (previously USFilter), where he directed activities for product development within the corporation.  Prior to that, Dr. Abu-Orf worked with Veolia Water North America Operating Services, where he provided technical support to the company’s more than 200 wastewater plants nationwide, with specific responsibilities related to biosolids processing and innovative technologies.  He has a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, both from the University of Delaware.

Dr. Abu-Orf has 4 patents and has published more than 80 articles in peer-review journals and referred conferences.  He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Residuals Science and Technology and an advisory board member of the WEF Biosolids Technical Bulletin.
