1. Design Report (1 original copy)
The design report should include a brief project understanding, assumptions, evaluation of alternatives, and recommendation (conclusions).
The design report shall be printed double sided. The print can be color or black/white. The report is to be submitted in a binder (1/2’ or 1/4' recommended) with appropriate cover to identify:
- Project title
- School and location
- Team members
Design report should consist of the following contents:
Letter of Transmittal
Table of Contents
Executive Summary
A summary of your solution indicating highlights and benefits of proposed solution
Not to exceed 500 words (not including word counts in figures and tables, and their titles)
Section 1 Design Report
Description of solution
Not to exceed 1500 words (not including word counts in figures and tables, and their titles)
Section 2 Attachments
Resume of all principal team members must be included. Other attachments may include calculations, reference materials such as equipment specifications, catalog cut, and supplemental drawings.
2. Poster (1 original copy, 1 electronic format)
A poster summarizing the design report. Following format to be used:
- Size: 30” x 30”, to be submitted both in a hard copy and an electronic format (PowerPoint, or pdf recommended).
- An unlimited number of images may be used in the poster.
- Minimum 22 point type size for text and descriptions.
- Title block to be located on the lower right hand corner of poster, should be 4” high x 6” wide and should list title of project, university and location, and team member names.
3. Interview (selected teams - videocast)
Selected teams will be invited to an interview with a panel of judges consisting of experts from Metcalf & Eddy. The interview will be conducted via videocast. Those schools not equipped with the videocast will use a conference call for the interview.
Each team will be given 15 minutes to present the deliverable, 5 minutes for questions and discussion. PowerPoint presentation is strongly encouraged.
Note that the teams with and without the videocast equipment will be judged equally, and the interview via conference call will not be disadvantaged.
4. Final Interview (finalists)
The finalist teams will be invited to an interview at Metcalf & Eddy’s New York office. The finalist teams will be given a chance to revise/improve the previous presentation. The judges will consist of the experts from Metcalf & Eddy as well as invited judges from other entities. The presenters may distribute a handout summarizing or supplementing the presentation.
