The goals of M&E's water resources practice are to help communities meet the need for sustainable, high-quality water supplies while simultaneously protecting the natural resources that are integral to the ecological health of the watershed.

For example, M&E provides water supply planning services, investigating the quality and availability of existing and potential supply sources, identifying near- and long-term water demand and helping communities with the necessary permitting. Our staff also conducts watershed studies including monitoring and evaluating land use, terrestrial and aquatic habitat, and water quality conditions. We develop a variety of models to predict future scenarios and possible management strategies. When the ecological balance within a watershed is likely to be disturbed (or has already been disturbed), we provide restoration plans which can include streambank stabilization, wetland restoration, and invasive species control.

Our water resources practice is staffed by personnel with connections to all our other business lines, because water resources issues are never one-dimensional. Our staff analyze the impact of potential strategies from perspectives that range from the ecological to the regulatory and the socio-economic, as well as from the standpoint of engineering feasibility. Our aim is always to help clients meet the water resources needs of today without mortgaging the future.
