Pfizer Brownfields Redevelopment
Client: Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection
M&E’s work on this project was focused on a 5-acre parcel within this 30-acre brownfields site. Site investigations revealed that this parcel, once the site of a scrap metal yard, was widely contaminated with petroleum, heavy metals and PCBs.
To accommodate Pfizer’s fast-track redevelopment schedule, M&E served in a design-build capacity. M&E designed a remediation strategy, involving removal of 50,000 tons of hazardous soils and other materials, and then acted as the remedial construction general contractor.
In a letter commending Metcalf & Eddy on project, Connecticut DEP Deputy Commissioner Jane Stahl wrote: ”The completion of this project was made more difficult by both schedule constraints and unanticipated site conditions. As a result of your efforts, the required activities were completed successfully and within the expedited schedule of the project.”
M&E’s services at the scrap yard included:
-
Site investigation studies
-
