Chattahoochee Pump Station and Pipeline
Client: Dekalb County Department of Public Works
Metcalf & Eddy is designing a 300-mgd replacement raw-water pumping station for the Scott Candler water filtration plant in DeKalb County, Georgia, to help meet long-range water supply needs.
Metcalf & Eddy is replacing the old pump station with a new upgraded facility downstream from the original site. M&E developed a plan for a new intake at the river bank and is designing sand removal wells ahead of the fine screens at the structure. The old mid-channel intake and rock weir will be removed from the river. Six vertical turbine pumps, each with a capacity of 60 mgd, will provide a firm capacity of 300 mgd, adequate to run the station during off-peak hours for optimum electrical costs.
Metcalf & Eddy is also designing 13,000 feet of new 96-inch diameter raw water transmission main to the Scott Candler Water Plant reservoirs. The new main will replace a 48-inch main that has been subject to repeated failures.
