Atlanta CSO Pumping and Treatment Facilities
Client: City of Atlanta, Georgia
This project involves a comprehensive upgrade to one CSO facility and its pump station and the design and construction of another new facility. M&E's upgrade of the East plant will enhance operations during CSO events and maintenance following the storm. Grit removal and solids handling in particular will be much improved. The new West CSO facility will receive its flow from a new 8.5-mile CSO tunnel serving the western portion of the city. Both facilities will employ high-rate treatment to remove inorganic and organic material, followed by disinfection, prior to discharge to tributaries of the South and Chattahoochee rivers. These projects are part of the City's CSO management program, which is being conducted under a consent decree with the U.S. EPA and Georgia EPD.
