Hollywood Water Treatment Plant Upgrade

Client: City of Hollywood, Florida
Metcalf & Eddy upgraded this lime softening treatment plant with 14 mgd of nanofiltration and 4 mgd of reverse osmosis. Older lime softening units with a capacity of 18 mgd were removed. Nanofiltration is used to treat water from the Biscayne aquifer, reducing hardness and removing trihalomethane precursers. Reverse osmosis desalinates brackish water from the Floridan aquifer. Water treated in the new units is blended with lime softened water from the original facilities before transfer to the Hollywood distribution storage system.
