Project Spotlight
Water treatment technology used at wastewater treatment plants?

Some M&E wastewater projects like the one in Forsyth County, Georgia use sophisticated membrane technologies that make possible beneficial reuse of the effluent.

Regulatory Compliance

Owners or operators of facilities subject to federal and state regulations governing the actual or potential release of contaminants may sometimes feel like they will never get off the regulatory treadmill. Investigation, evaluation, and reporting can often appear to be the major thrust of activities rather than a means to an end.

Environmental regulations related to building or operating a new facility can seem similarly overwhelming, particularly the environmental impact statement (EIS). In an EIS, a comprehensive, multi-media baseline is created for each site, followed by an estimate of environmental impacts from the potential alternatives.

M&E's environmental specialists and regulatory experts expedite compliance with regulatory requirements, allowing clients to focus on their primary goals. Our services cover everything from identifying the permits and approvals required through identification and implementation of corrective actions if required, and assistance with self-monitoring programs. These services include:

  • Coordinating schedules of several permits along an overall project development track so as to avoid delays
  • Negotiating permit conditions with regulatory authorities
  • Assessing environmental risks
  • Defining compliance alternatives
  • Assisting in public hearings and adjudications
  • Performing environmental assessments and preparing environmental impact statements for NEPA compliance
  • Addressing state-specific regulatory requirements, e.g. the provision of Licensed Site Professional (LSP) services for compliance with the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP)

Key to the staff's success is their experience not only with the regulations but also with the broad range of potential response actions and with the use of risk assessment principles. This helps them determine practical mitigation goals that protect human health and the environment but require less costly response actions.
