Project Spotlight
Water treatment technology used at wastewater treatment plants?

Some M&E wastewater projects like the one in Forsyth County, Georgia use sophisticated membrane technologies that make possible beneficial reuse of the effluent.

Site Assessment

Owners of commercial or industrial property face a variety of potential liability issues associated with site contamination from the past disposal of wastes and storage of fuels, solvents, and other chemical materials. This disposal may once have been accepted practice; today, however, the risks to human health and the environment associated with the release of such materials may be unacceptable.

In many cases, the owner needs to determine whether in fact contamination exists and, if it does, assess the nature and extent of that contamination. A technically sound environmental site assessment, followed by a site investigation should contamination be shown to exist, provides the data necessary for informed decision making. At the site investigation stage, site conditions are more precisely delineated and human health risks and ecological risks quantified. The subsequent development and evaluation of remediation alternatives depends on this data.

The M&E Track Record
Metcalf & Eddy has conducted numerous environmental site assessments and subsequent site investigations for commercial clients interested in property divestiture, acquisition, or redevelopment. Our staff is adept at accessing and reviewing available data from local government sources; identifying potential problems through visual inspection; and then characterizing the nature and extent of contamination, using soil borings, sampling of potentially impacted media, air quality monitoring, and a wide range of other analytical tools. They have particular expertise with advanced computer modeling techniques.

For our public sector clients, we have completed hundreds of site assessments that have formed the basis of remedial investigations, risk assessments and the subsequent development of remedial alternatives. The U.S. EPA, the Department of Defense, and the departments of transportation of several states are long-time clients, often engaging our services for multi-site efforts such as the Base Realignment and Closure program.
