Engineering Design
The staff in Metcalf & Eddy's A/E design center work out of the corporate headquarters in Wakefield, Massachusetts. This centralization helps M&E provide clients around the world with a uniform, high quality, well-coordinated design product. The center has architects, engineers, designers, drafters, and CADD operators for all A/E disciplines.
Working together as one unit has facilitated the development of a comprehensive set of standard practices and specifications. Accessible on the firm's intranet and therefore constantly updated, these documents collect lessons learned and serve as a primary quality control device. They provide for the standardization that saves clients time and money while also highlighting areas where additional effort helps create long-term value.
CAD
Metcalf & Eddy supports two major computer-aided design systems in house: AutoCAD and MicroStation.
AutoCAD has been part of M&E's CAD effort since the early days of AutoCAD. M&E has completed hundreds of projects in AutoCAD, including the 600-mgd North Dorchester Bay CSO pumping and treatment facility and the 115-million-gallon Norumbega covered water storage tank, both in Massachusetts.
Metcalf & Eddy also uses MicroStation in a production environment. We have produced many projects that were completely designed using MicroStation. Such projects include the 200-dry-tons-per-day centralized sludge processing facilities in San Diego, California and the 20-mgd advanced water reclamation facility in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
